Our congratulations go to Unit D.Phil student Alessia Manganaro, who successfully defended her D.Phil. thesis, entitled “Functional differentiation along the dorso-ventral axis of the hippocampus”, on Friday 29th May 2014.
Alessia's examiners were Prof David Bannerman (Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford) and Dr Colin Lever (Durham University). Alessia was supervised by Prof Jozsef Csicsvari and Prof Peter Somogyi.

Miroslawa Manko successfully defended (only minor corrections have been requested by the examiners) her D.Phil. thesis entitled: "Role of intercalated and NPY-expressing cells in neuronal circuit of the amygdala" on the 24th of August 2012. Miroslawa was supervised by Dr. Marco Capogna. Her internal examiner was Dr. Ed Mann (DPAG, Oxford), and her external examiner was Prof. Kaspar Vogt (Biozentrum, Basel, Switzerland). Miroslawa will start working in the laboratory of Dr. Ron Stoop (Dept.
Tatjana Lalic successfully defended her D.Phil. thesis, 'Synaptic transmission of hippocampal mossy fibres in health and disease', on the 4th of December 2009. Tatjana was supervised by Dr. Marco Capogna. Her internal examiner was Dr. Colin Akerman (on the right), and her external was Dr. Urs Gerber from the University of Zurich, Switzerland (on the left).
Thomas Bienvenu successfully defended (only minor corrections have been requested by the examiners) his D.Phil. thesis entitled: "Functional specialisation of GABAergic cells in the basolateral amygdala" on the 18th of August 2011. Thomas was supervised by Dr. Marco Capogna. His internal examiner was Dr. Colin Akerman, and his external examiner was Prof. Andreas Luthi from the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, Basel, Switzerland.
Cristina Martínez González has successfully defended her D.Phil. thesis entitled: "Topographical organisation of non-cholinergic neurons in the pedunculopontine nucleus" on the 19th of March 2012 (only minor corrections have been requested by the examiners).
Miss Alessia Manganaro has joined the group of Jozsef Csicsvari as an MRC-funded DPhil student.Alessia obtained her BSc in the University of Palermo and MSc in Neurosciences in the University of Florence.
