Tatjana was supervised by Dr. Marco Capogna. Her internal examiner was Dr. Colin Akerman (on the right), and her external was Dr. Urs Gerber from the University of Zurich, Switzerland (on the left).
Thomas Bienvenu successfully defended (only minor corrections have been requested by the examiners) his D.Phil. thesis entitled: "Functional specialisation of GABAergic cells in the basolateral amygdala" on the 18th of August 2011. We are pleased to welcome Miss Husniye Hacioglu Bay to the Unit as a Visiting Student. Husniye is currently studying for her PhD at the Neuroscience Programme of Marmara University, Turkey. She joins the Unit to receive advanced training and pursue her anatomical projects, as part of a collaboration between Prof. Umit Sehirli and Unit scientists Dr. Juan Mena-Segovia and Prof. Paul Bolam.
Silvia Willadt has joined Marco Capogna's lab supported by a NENS (Network of European Neuroscience Schools) stipend for Training Stay and by an International Junior Research Grant from the Physiological Society, UK. The aim of her stay is to learn to identify and record selective interneurons of the hippocampus in vitro to detect GABAergic signals in dendrites of pyramidal cells by using voltage imaging. Silvia, who originally is from Freiburg, Germany, is a PhD student of the Biozentrum, University of Basel, Switzerland, under the supervision of Dr. Marco Canepari and Prof.
Dr. Stéphanie Trouche joins the Unit as an MRC Investigator Scientist. Stéphanie’s previous research has focused on the neural circuits underlying memory processes and has employed system-neuroscience approach combining behavioural, neuroanatomical and imaging tools. In September 2009, Stéphanie obtained her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Toulouse, France, where she examined the contribution of new hippocampal neurons to spatial memory processes.
